SharpEdge Technologies, an authorised Distributor of ETP Transmission’s Metalworking Products like HYDRO-GRIPs for machining centres and HYDRO- FIX for SWISS automats and Turning centres; Sharpedge Technologies has always promoted advanced technology and innovative solutions for the precision machining industry. The company’s philosophy is catered on bringing proven global technologies to Indian manufacturers to improve machining productivity, accuracy, and process stability. Rather than simply supplying products, SharpEdge follows a strongly customer-centric approach, working closely with end users to solve real machining and tool holding challenges through application engineering and focused trials.
As part of this commitment, Sharpedge Technologies partners with ETP Transmission AB, Sweden, to deliver innovative precision tool holding solutions to our End Users in India. Known for their reliability and engineering precision, ETP HYDRO-GRIP tool holders provide extremely low runout, high consistent clamping force, and excellent vibration damping capabilities, which ensure consistent tool performance in terms of accuracy, finish etc making them invaluable for demanding machining applications.
A notable example of SharpEdge’s application- driven approach involved a leading Medical aerospace automotive component manufacturer using high-end Swiss sliding head machines.
The customer was facing persistent problems such as frequent tool breakages, poor tool life, and high component rejection rates. The SharpEdge application team studied the machining process in detail and recommended the use of a variety of ETP Hydro Fix S hydraulic holders designed specifically for Swiss Automats. After implementing the ETP Hydro-Fix S holders, the improvements were immediate and dramatic. Due to the higher clamping force and extremely low runout provided by the HYDRO-FIX S, tool stability improved significantly. Tool breakages were eliminated, and the improved concentricity reduced part scrap. Although the Hydro-Fix holders were more expensive than conventional ER-type collet holders, the operational benefits convinced the customer to adopt them. The Hydro-Fix S system reduced tool change time by nearly 90%, giving the user more time to produce parts thereby improving machine utilization and shop floor efficiency.
Another example is the case of an aerospace end user operating high-end five-axis machining centres and was struggling with poor GRIPs. tool life when using long-reach cutting tools. SharpEdge proposed the use of ETP PENCIL Type HYDRO-GRIP holders.
These holders allowed the use of shorter standard cutting tools while still achieving the required reach, thereby improving tool rigidity and significantly reducing tooling costs.
During market development, SharpEdge also faced challenges due to the presence of low-cost hydraulic holders having double- chamber for clamping of tools; such hydraulic holders were reported to have experienced problems of higher runout and tool slippage resulting in shorter tool life of the holders. SharpEdge addressed this by introducing ETP’s single-chamber HYDRO-GRIP technology, which provides uniform clamping pressure around the tool shank, with maintained lower runout and consistent clamping force resulting in longer tool holder life.
Focused trials conducted by SharpEdge engineers with end users have demonstrated the consistent performance of of ETP HYDRO-GRIPs. Customers particularly appreciated that ETP holders provide precise clamping force matched to each specific tool shank diameter, unlike many other manufacturers that specify only a general clamping range. This engineering precision, combined with application support from SharpEdge, has enabled customers to achieve stable machining processes and long-term reliability in their operations.
